The purpose of the work conducted in Research Project 386 was to compare the predicted annual energy consumption of a small commercial building in three U.S. sites as calculated by the TC 4.7 Simplified Energy Analysis Procedure (SEAP) and the hourly simulation code DOE-2. Eight key building parameters were varied for the same basic structure in the three test sites – Washington, Albuquerque and Los Angeles. The eight adjusted parameters were:

1. Surface Weight Ratio
2. Internal Heat Gains
3. Room Air Throttling Range
4. Night Thermostat Setback
5. Glass-to-Wall Area Ratio
6. Aspect Ratio
7. Number of Zones
8. Supply Air Throttling Range
