RP-1321 — Modeling VOC Sorption of Building Materials and Its Impact on Indoor Air Quality – Phase II (Second Phase of RP-1097)

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) constitute a significant class of indoor air contaminants. There has been growing evidence that building materials can affect the transport and exposure of indoor VOCs by sorption. However, VOC sorption of building materials is usually neglected in previous indoor air quality (IAQ) studies. Therefore, research on VOC sorption of building materials and its impact on IAQ is important.

The ultimate goal of this project is to improve the understanding of building material sorption, and develop a useful and reliable VOC sink model for building materials that can be used for indoor environmental design.
