The eighty-year-old single pressure absorption refrigerationsystem invented by Albert Einstein and Leo Szilard is attractiveas it has no mechanical moving parts and can be driven byheat alone. The literature on the refrigeration system is scarceand only theoretical analyses are available. In this paper adversitiesof the primitive design and the operation of the refrigeratorprototype are discussed. The prototype is able to achievetemperatures between 8°C (46.4°F) and 14°C (57.2°F). Fivepairs of heat inputs between 53W and 111W are studied. Coolingcapacities decrease (from 34W to 15W)when the generatorheat input increases, however, cooling capacities increase(from17W to 30 W) when the bubble pump heat input increases. Thehighest COP is 0.25 when the heat inputs to generator is 53 Wandtobubblepumpis89W.Theideal cooling capacityandCOPare 40 W and 0.28, respectively.
