NT-87-29-5 — A Simplified Model for Absorption of Vapors into Liquid Films Flowing Over Cooled Horizontal Tubes

An analysis is presented of absorption of a vapor into a liquid film flowing over a cooled horizontal tube, a common configuration for absorption chilling units. The boundary layer assumptions are used for transport of momentum, energy, and species in an assumed laminar liquid film. Similarity solutions are used to solve momentum and energy transport. The process is modeled numerically. Results for water-lithium bromide are compared with an earlier detailed model and are also compared with data taken from operating absorption chillers.
