Fire is a killer. Fires are spectacular, fires getattention. And while fire is a tremendous destroyer of property, with over2.7 billion lost annually in the U.S. alone, the blame for fire fatalitieshas been incorrectly placed for too long a time. Over 80% of last year’s12,000 fire deaths were directly smoke related.

This paper addresses the need to explore better control of smoke during fires and what improvements have already been made. It also looks at the possible need to codify proven methods for controlling smoke as well as radiantenergy.
