Scope

1.1.1

This standard applies to newly produced outdoor cooking gas appliances (see Part IV, Definitions), constructed entirely of new, unused parts and materials. Outdoor cooking gas appliances submitted for examination under this standard shall be classified as either portable or stationary.

1.1.2

This standard does not apply to outdoor cooking gas appliances for installation in or on recreational vehicles and/or boats.

1.1.3

An outdoor cooking gas appliance may be a: (a) Broiler unit; (b) Top or surface unit; or (c) Combination of “”a”” or “”b”” above, or any other outdoor cooking gas appliance.

1.1.4

Outdoor cooking gas appliances may be:

(a) For connection to a fixed fuel piping system; or

(b) For connection to a self-contained liquefied petroleum gas supply system provided the outdoor cooking gas appliance incorporates integral cylinder mounting means, for attachment of a single cylinder with a maximum size of 20 pounds (9.1 kg) of fuel.

1.1.5

This standard applies to outdoor cooking gas appliances operating at inlet gas pressures not to exceed 1/2 psi (3.5 kPa) for connection to a fixed fuel piping system:

(a) For use with natural gas; (b) For use with manufactured gas; (c) For use with mixed gas; (d) For use with liquefied petroleum gases; and (e) For use with LP gas-air mixtures.

This standard also applies to outdoor cooking gas appliances designed for connection to self-contained LP-gas supply systems (see 1.5):

(a) Operating at regulated outlet pressures not to exceed 11 inches water column (2.74 kPa); and (b) Operating at regulated outlet pressures in excess of 11 inc hes water column (2.74 kPa) but not greater than 5 psi (34.5 kPa).

The construction of outdoor cooking gas appliances for use with the above-mentioned gases is covered under Part I.

The performance of outdoor cooking gas appliances for use with the above-mentioned gases is covered under Part II.

1.1.6

Throughout this document gauge pressures are designated in p ounds per square inch, (psi) and kilopascals (kPa). Use of the terminology “”psig”” is not used. Where “”psi”” is used it is understood to be pound per square ich gauge. Absolute pressures are not used in this standard.

1.1.7 If a value for measurement as given in this standard is followed by an equivalent value in other units, the first stated va lue is to be regarded as the specification. (Also see Exhibit C.)

1.1.8

Exhibit A contains the LP-Gas Cylinder Label.

1.1.9

Exhibit B contains provisions that are unique to the United States.

1.1.10

Exhibit C contains provisions that are unique to Canada.

1.1.11

Exhibit D contais a list of standards specifically r eferenced in this standard, and sources from which these reference standards may be obtained.

1.1.12

An outdoor cooking gas appliance covered by this standard need not comply with the provisions of the Standard for Gas-Fired Appliances for Outdoor Installations, CAN1-2.21.
