Designing an energy-efficient facility like the Mistissini Community Centre in northern Quebec was a significant challenge. The three level building that includes an ice rink has a simultaneous need for heating, cooling and refrigeration to maintain proper ice quality. The heating and cooling system, consisting of 33 heat pumps connected to a geothermal loop, coupled with other energy saving measures, have saved the facility approximately $153,600 annually.
