The building sector accounts for about 25% of the total national greenhouse gas emissions in South Korea. Accordingly, the approval criteria for new buildings in South Korea have been fortified, whereby energy-saving in the building sector is stressed by implementing the mandatory zero energy buildings in stages. To accomplish the true fortification goals of such policies, it is required to acquire technical and economic justification and provide energy information that can be easily understood by building stakeholders. In response, a governmental research project is under progress to expand the building energy information system, which has previously been limited to providing energy usage information by energy source, to an EUI(energy use intensity) information system according to the end-use. Accordingly, the present study evaluated characteristics of 48 sample business facilities, where the measurement system had been installed, in terms of building construction, facility, and use categories, along with providing the annual EUI statistics according to end-use from May 2017 to April 2018. Furthermore, a comparative investigation was performed by using data from the Commercial Buildings Energy Consumption Survey (CBECS) for the year 2012, which is a part of the US building sector energy information system.
