1. Scope
1.1
General This Standard establishes limits and methods of measurement of conducted and radiated electromagnetic emissions from data processing equipment and electronic office machines.
1.2
Application This Standard is applicable to data processing equipment and electronic office machines operating at their rated voltage and frequency and in all normal modes of operation. Data processing equipment and electronic office machines include any electronic device or system that generates and uses timing signals or pulses at a rate in excess of 10 000 pulses (cycles) per second, and uses digital techniques, including telephone equipment that utilizes digital techniques, or any device or system that generates and utilizes radio frequency energy for the purpose of performing data processing functions, such as electronic co mputations, operations, transformations, recording, filing, sorting, storage, retrieval, or transfer.
This Standard applies to the following classes of equipment:
(a)
Class A Equipment is intended for use in a commercial, industrial, or business environment, exclusive of a device which is marketed for use by the general public, or which is intended to be used in the home; and
(b)
Class B Equipment is intended for use in a residential environment notwithstanding use in the commercial, business, and industrial environment. Examples of such devices include, but are not limited to, electronic games, personal computers, calculators, and similar electronic devices that are marketed for use by the general public.
1.3
Frequency Range This Standard applies to the frequency range of 450 kHz to 30 MHz for conducted emissions and 30 MHz to 1 GHz for radiated emissions.
1.4
This Standard does not apply to the following:
(a)
A computing device utilized in any transportation vehicle including motor vehicles and aircraft;
(b)
An electronic control or power system utilized by a public utility or in an industrial plant;
(c)
Industrial, commercial, and medical test equipment, e.g., spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and signal generators; or
(d)
A computing device utilized in an appliance, e.g., a dishwasher, clothes dryer, air conditioner, and sewing machine.
Note:
Transmitters and receivers and any other radio frequency devices which are specifically subject to emanation requirements elsewhere in other CSA standards or regulations are also excluded from this Standard.
