1. Scope

1.1

This Standard covers concentric-lay aluminum alloy 1350 stranded conductors constructed with a straight round central wire surrounded by one or more layers of helically laid compacted wires. The conductor temper shall be hard (H19) or interme diate temper, as specified. The conductors are for general use for electrical purposes.

1.2

For purposes of this Standard conductors are classified as follows:

(a) Class AA – for bare conductors usually used in overhead lines;

(b) Class A – for conductors to be covered with weather- resistant (weatherproof) materials, and for bare conductors where greater flexibility than is afforded by Class AA is required. Conductors to be insulated and laid helically with, or around, aluminum or ASCR messengers shall be regarded as Class A cond uctors with respect to direction of lay only (see Clause 3.2.2.3);

(c) Class B – for conductors to be insulated with various materials such as thermoplastics, thermosets, paper, etc., and for the conductors indicated under Class A where greater flexibility is required.
