RP-1090 — Development of A Two-Dimensional Transient Model of Snow-Melting Systems, and Use of the Model for Analysis of Design Alternatives

The cost of snow melting systems installed in the U.S. alone each year is estimated at $200 to $300 million. Applications include sidewalks, roadways, ramps and runways, and systems include hydronic, electric and infrared designs. This research project will generate better design guidance for inclusion in the ASHRAE Handbook of Applications, as well as a model that can be used by design engineers to model site-specific applications.
